The game of basketball first started in Massachusetts, USA in 1881. The father of this game is Dr. Dr. James Naismith. Initially 10/15 people in a team participated in the game. From 1894, the rules of playing in groups of 5 players were introduced. The first Christian missionary schools in Bangladesh such as St. Gregory's in Dhaka,Basketball started in St. Joseph's and St. Placid in Chittagong and other missionary schools. This game requires a lot of breath.
Rules of basketball game
(1). Court: The basketball court will be rectangular, The floor shall be hard and level and unobstructed national and regional playing courts shall have a length of 26 m. and width 14 meters. For international competition, the length of the court will be 28 meters and the width will be 15 meters.
(2). Court circle: There are 3 circles in the court. Each has a radius of 1.80 m.
(3). RESERVED AREA: Two marks shall be placed 1.80 meters on either side from the midpoint of the endline. From the middle of the end line, 5.80 meters in front and 1.80 meters on both sides, 3.60 meters along the two ends of the mark should be drawn. The area inside this scar is called the protected area.
(4). Ring: The height of the ring from the court is 3.05 m. The ring is placed at a distance of 15 cm from the board. The radius of the ring is 45 cm. A net will be attached to the ring with a length of 40 cm.
(5). Ball: The shape of the ball will be round. Weight 567 grams to 650 grams, girth 74.9-78 cm. There will be 8 panels on top of the ball. The color of the ball will be orange. The top is crispy.
(6). Playing time is 40 minutes. It is played in four parts. 10 minutes per section. Interval between 1st and 2nd phase and 3rd and 4th phase is 2 minutes. Interval between games is 15 minutes.
(7). Points: 3 points if scored from outside the 6.25m mark. 2 points if scored from inside the 6.25m mark. Free throws score 1 point.
(8). Start of the game: A toss is used to decide which basket a team will score. Later two players from two teams will stand in the middle of the court in a circle. The referee will stand in the middle and start the game by throwing the ball into the void.
(9). 3 Second Rule: No player of the team controlling the ball can be in the reserved area without the ball for more than 3 seconds. Can't even touch the stain.
(10). 5 second rule:
A. The ball must be thrown within 5 seconds after the referee's signal.
b. No one can hold the ball for more than 5 seconds.
c. Players of the two teams cannot pull for more than 5 seconds.
d. The ball must be dribbled or passed within 5 seconds after catching the ball.
(11). 8 second rule: The ball can be kept in possession for 8 seconds in own court. The ball must be taken in the opponent's court within 8 seconds.
(12_. 24 second rule: All players of a team can keep possession of the ball for 24 seconds.
(13). Violation: Violation of the rules of the game such as not raising hands during a personal foul, violation of rules at 3, 5, 8 seconds, etc.
(14). Technical Foul: Shows contempt for the officials and intentionally breaks the rules repeatedly and behaves in an unsportsmanlike manner.
(15). Personal Foul: Illegal physical contact with an opposing player while the ball is in play or dead is called a personal foul.
(16). Intentional Foul: An intentional foul is committed when a player intentionally fouls an opposing player.
(17). Double Foul: The offense committed when two players of two teams commit a foul against each other at the same time is called a double foul.
(18). Five Fouls: If a player commits a total of 5 personal and technical fouls in a 40-minute game, he must leave the court.
(19). Seven Fouls: When a team commits 7 personal or technical fouls per half and 4 personal and technical fouls per half in 4 x 10 minute games. A technical foul will result in 2 free throws for the next foul. Whoever is fouled shoots the free throw.
