Neeraj Chopra brought silver to India in Javelin at the World Championships. India's second medal in the competition came courtesy of Neeraj. Notably, Neeraj is the second Indian after Anju Bobby George to win a medal at the World Championships. Earlier, Neeraj also created history by winning gold in javelin in Tokyo Olympics. No competitor from Asia had won a medal in the event before him.

However, Neerj did not start well in the final of the World Championship this time. He made a foul throw. Grenada's Anderson Peters threw 90.21 meters first. This makes Neeraj's job difficult.

In the second chance, Neeraj threw 82.39 meters. Neeraj increased the distance in the third chance, throwing 86.37 meters.

After three throws each, the first eight of the 12 finalists were selected. Neeraj threw the javelin at a distance of 88.13 meters in his fourth throw.

He increased the hope of winning a medal with that throw. However, Neeraj's fifth throw was dismissed.

Neeraj won gold in Tokyo Olympics last year. A javelin throw of 83.50 meters was required to qualify directly for the finals of the World Athletics Championships.
He did that by throwing 88.39 meters in the first throw.
